Ingenuity, the mini helicopter touches the Martian land

Ingenuity, The first helicopter ever sent to any other planet than the earth, finally touches the Martian land.

Reported by NASA on 4th April, Ingenuity touches Martian land, or the surface of Mars. Before that, the helicopter had dropped from the belly of the Perseverance rover. The first flight of this helicopter will occur in just over a week.

The tiny solar-powered helicopter is really light and weighs only about 3.96 pounds. Its rechargeable battery makes it capable to keep the systems nice and warm even in the cold temperature of Mars. In Mars, the temperatures at night can drop to as low as -90 degrees C.

Official with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory stated in a Twitter announcement that the Mars Helicopter touchdown had been confirmed. The statement said the 293 million miles (471 million km) journey aboard at NASA Perseverance ended with the final drop of 10 cm from the rover’s belly to the surface of Mars that day.

According to NASA, they expect the historical device to make its first flight on April 11, 2021. The data will reach Earth only on 12th April.

The helicopter’s project costs approximately 85 million USD. Ingenuity, which is carrying two cameras to film its flight, is the first helicopter that reached to another world. And, it is also designed to test the technologies for future flying vehicles on other planets.

The perseverance rover will also record the upcoming flight of ingenuity.
