Is Earth something special on a bigger scale?
Why do we appear insignificant in comparison to the Universe? This might be due to our tiny size or maybe we are just so far away and are unable to see beyond it.
The Universe is expanding, and it is backed by science.
There are necessarily two possibilities:
Possibility 1 – Earth is not special on a bigger scale, and it’s the same as every other planet in our solar system, same as any other planets farther in the Universe.
If you’re a space junkie like me, you love looking at cool infographics about the scale of outer space. This brings us to possibility 2…
Possibility 2 – Earth indeed is something special.
The discovery of the expanding universe was based on the observation that the galaxies were moving away from the earth. Conspiracy alert!
While it’s not a big possibility, a possibility always remains that our Earth is indeed something special on a bigger scale.
Is Earth something special on a bigger scale?
Looking at our normal human sight, our planet is apparently of average size in the Milky Way and is quite insignificant in comparison to the size of our galaxy.
The sun, which orbits around the center of our galaxy, is considered an average star with the Zodiac being roughly 8.20 light minutes away from earth.
Our earth is just one of the planets of a solar system (out of billions of others) in the milky way, which on its own is just one of the galaxies in “a Universe” that contains billions of those.
It’s quite easy for us to use words such as “billions of” or “infinite” or anything like that. But when you look at the Universe with your own eyes, it might be difficult to imagine how big that really is.
So, is earth something special on a bigger scale?
Looking at things and thinking out of the box isn’t everything but it’s sometimes fun. For the sake of argument, let’s take this as a yes and see how Earth is “special” on a bigger scale.
I am not trying to say that the earth is flat or the moon landing was fake. Just to make everything clear.
Okay…getting straight into it. The earth might be the center of attention. When I say “the center of attention”, I don’t mean that the earth is the most popular place to visit in space…but it’s the only one.
Expanding Universe can suggest two possibilities:
All of the galaxies in the universe are moving away from each other, and every region of space is being stretched. Everything is moving away from the Earth.
Now, the second point, that everything is moving away from the earth does not make sense easily. Why? Because we have observed billions of stars in our Universe… there are 10s of billions of planets… and it just doesn’t make sense.
Now I would not claim that the fact that aliens have not arrived yet, debunks the possibilities of alien life. I wouldn’t even touch that this debunks the existence of other habitable planets. I wouldn’t claim that our solar system/earth is the only special entity and the whole universe is secondary.
But I will debate that the Earth is not 4.543 Billion years old. We are really fond of dating rocks. Scientists have determined that Earth is 4.54 billion years old, with a (50 million-year margin of error just in case), by dating the rocks in its ever-changing crust as well as the rocks in Earth’s neighbors, such as the moon and passing meteorites.
The fact of the matter is that the Earth might not be 4.543 billion years old. I have no way to prove it.
Now that I have said it…let’s try to explain.
Aliens have not arrived on Earth yet (1). Aliens have not been able to communicate with us till now. (AYS?). If the universe is 13.7 Billion years old and the Earth is 4.5 Billion years old…there were other planets in existence before the birth of our Earth,
This either means that there is no alien life at all, or there are laws of nature due to which even the advanced civilizations (which are far more advanced than us) have not been able to communicate with us yet.
If there are no extraterrestrials out there, the Earth is simply special on a bigger scale. And if there are laws of nature preventing us from seeing/contacting the aliens or vice versa, there is no point in even trying. Because not even the older civilizations (which have existed for billions of earth years) have been able to communicate with us yet.
We have observed a lot of galaxies so far, and every galaxy is moving away from all the others.
Since the movement of galaxies in all directions is at the same rate, this means that there is no special entity in existence (so far as we know).
Is our Earth the center of the Universe?
The earth is not the center of the Universe…it’s the center of attention. Although, there is no audience to watch and celebrate what’s happening here. And this is a big difference. There’s no one to celebrate what’s happening here.
Why has no alien civilization been able to communicate with us or send a message? Why do we even want the aliens to communicate with us? The best thing about the Earth is that it does not need anyone else to exist. It exists without anyone else watching it.
I know this might sound a little bit far-fetched…but it’s possible that there are no extraterrestrials out there. “Not believing in aliens” should not be considered a conspiracy theory.
Another possibility is that life does evolve on other planets but they are no more intelligent than the animals on our planet. Like… we randomly evolved to be intelligent at this level and we were never meant to be as intelligent as we are.
But this is all a myth. Out of trillions of planets, it’s not possible that not a single one hosts species with intelligence of/more than our level. (if at all)
Therefore there is no mid-way. 50% chance that aliens do not exist at all (which means that the earth is something really special) and the other part of the coin is that there are aliens in existence but nature is the boss. (And that implies to our planet as well).
